Advanced SPAM Filtering

FAQ

Q

Can encrypted mail or password-protected zip files be scanned?

A

Because the whole point of this kind of technology is to prevent unauthorized access, scanning of encrypted mail and certain kinds of protected attachments is not possible. The likelihood of SPAM or viruses is very low, however, since only someone you know would have reason to send this type of mail.

Q

Can I configure my main account differently than my additional mailbox?

A

Yes, Please log in to the "Member's Station" using the ID and Password of the account you want to change and proceed to "User Settings" from the main menu.

Q

After the new Advanced SPAM Filtering service starts, what happens to the Standard SPAM filter settings that Rakuten Broadband Premium offered customers for free?

A

The Standard SPAM filter settings continue to be offered to Rakuten Broadband Premium customers for free. The Standard SPAM filter options have also been upgraded with new features includinglanguage-based filters for Russian, Korean, and Chinese as well as additional real-time and local black lists that can be turned ON or OFF to best suit your needs.

Q

What is the difference between the Virus Filter and the SPAM Filter?

A

Although the gap between Viruses and SPAM is becoming narrower, (one could argue that a lot of viruses are distributed via SPAM-like E-mail), the fact is that most SPAM, although incredibly irritating, is harmless to your computer, and that a lot of virus-infected mail can easily slide past a SPAM filter. That being the case, it is accurate to say that by only filtering viruses, you would still receive a lot of SPAM and by the same token, only filtering SPAM would still leave you susceptible to a lot of viruses.

Q

If I use the Advanced SPAM filter, do I have to turn on and enter settings for the Standard SPAM filter?

A

The Advanced SPAM filter was not designed to operate independently to the Standard SPAM filter. The Advanced SPAM filter will not adequately block SPAM working by itself. Rakuten Broadband Premium strongly recommends that when using the Advanced SPAM filter that the Standard SPAM filter is also turned ON and the customer, to best suit their desired level of SPAM filtering, enters settings.

Q

What should I do if I get a SPAM E-mail that was given a score lower than 5?

A

If you have all of your regular free SPAM filters turned on and you receive a SPAM E-mail that was given a score of 5 or lower, please forward it to spam@gol.com. Please include full headers when forwarding. Please do not forward any E-mail that is given a score of 7 or higher.
